How your exact age is calculated
Your age sounds simple — the number of birthdays you've had — but "exactly how old am I?" is a little more involved. This calculator works out the full gap between your date of birth and today (or any date you choose) as years, months and days, the way you'd naturally describe a baby's age, and then keeps going for adults too.
The method mirrors how you'd count on a calendar. It starts from the whole years between the two dates, then the whole months, then the leftover days. When the day-of-month hasn't been reached yet this month, it borrows the length of the previous month — which is why February, leap years and 30- versus 31-day months are all handled correctly rather than assuming every month is 30 days.
Alongside the years-months-days figure you'll see your life measured in total months, weeks and days — the running totals that quietly climb every day. These are the numbers people love for milestone birthdays: your 10,000th day arrives at about 27 years and 4 months, and your 30,000th day around your 82nd birthday.
It also tells you which day of the week you were born on and counts down to your next birthday. Everything runs in your browser — no date of birth is ever sent anywhere.
